Flood Protection
As long as rain continues to fall, floods will continue to occur. So how does the Santa Clara Valley Water District increase flood protection for people and property? By thinking strategically and working across boundaries, realizing that the right mix of solutions can meet the overall goal.
The water district is determined to reduce – if not eliminate – the potential for damage by flooding, which since the post-war development boom of the 1950s, has impacted a number of Santa Clara County neighborhoods. Over the last six decades, the district has responded by building hundreds of miles of flood protection facilities.
The Master Plan will explore opportunities to apply natural flood protection principles, which provide a softer framework for designing new projects or shoring up aging facilities.
